PORTAL FOCUS: South Asia
OPERATING IN SOUTH ASIA
Progress and Professionalism
in a Crowded Market
by Will Kohudic, Editor
South Asia is traditionally defined as the countries of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. It comprises more than five million square kilometers and a population of almost two billion people, with an endless diversity of geography, cultures, difficulties, and rewards. It’s also the home of almost 100 IAM member companies who thrive in an atmosphere of endless challenge and opportunity.

The stories of the 14 companies who submitted articles for this issue are tales of obstacles overcome, challenges met, and success in the face of adversity. Moving, forwarding, and logistics work of any kind in such a diverse landscape of cultures and growing economies is challenging. Across a landscape of differing cultures and shifting legal requirements, IAM’s South Asian members have a few things in common: they embrace company cultures of personal and professional growth and hold themselves to international standards of ethics and strong customer service. With this winning formula, they achieve success and differentiation in the midst of a vast and sprawling marketplace.

The next few pages span the breadth and depth of the region that these companies are fortunate to call home, where ancient cultures blend with hypermodern industries to create a business environment like no place else on earth. Let each of them tell you in their own words what it takes to not just do business, but to be among the best in one of the most crowded markets on Earth.
