Meet the Executive Committee Candidates Premier Membership
John Burrows, President, DeWitt Move Worldwide
Running for: Chair (incumbent)
As we approach the 62nd IAM Annual Meeting at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, I am excited to announce my candidacy for re-election as the Chair of the IAM Executive Board. I have been an active and committed member of IAM since the late 90s, serving on various committees and eventually becoming a board member in 2014. This year’s theme, “All In,” perfectly captures my dedication and commitment to our association. With over 30 years of dedicated service in the moving industry, I believe I possess the experience, vision, and passion necessary to continue leading our association into a prosperous future.
Since last year, the DoD Global Household Goods Contract has started and will continue to change the DoD business as we know it today. This will ultimately impact not just the DoD business but will very likely cause a shift in the non-DoD business as a side effect.
Throughout my career, I have been actively involved at the agency and TSP level in all aspects of household goods moving. I know how challenging these adjustments will be, and we, as an industry, have always found ways to navigate such changes. We will continue this journey and adapt both in the DoD area and in other markets of the moving industry. I look forward to serving alongside the industry and IAM with Brian Limperopulos for another year to work through these industry changes.
I have had significant exposure to all aspects and markets of the moving business, including DoD, DPM, GSA, Non-Government agencies, Move Management, Corporate clients, and relocating individuals. This knowledge serves as a strong foundation for strengthening IAM’s membership and addressing the association’s evolving needs in the future.
Beyond DeWitt Guam and DeWitt Companies Limited, The DeWitt Companies family of businesses includes Royal Hawaiian Movers, Royal Alaskan Movers, and Approved Freight for Hawaii, Guam, Alaska, and Puerto Rico.
IAM is at a crucial juncture with changes that have started and are scheduled to continue over the next year, and I am eager to lead our association into a vibrant and successful future. I humbly ask for your support and vote in the upcoming election. Together, we can embrace the “All In” spirit and ensure IAM’s continued success.
Lakelan Fennell, Vice President of GSA, Suddath Government Services
Running for: Member at Large (incumbent)
Lakelan Fennell currently serves on several committees at ATA and at IAM. In addition to being an incumbent Member at Large of the IAM Executive Committee, he is a past Vice Chair of the IAM Domestic Asset Based (DAB) Mover Group, and a member of IAM’s Government Congressional and Regulatory (GC&R), Budget and Finance, and Tenders and Tariffs committees.
After serving almost thirty years at a multi-location van line agent in virtually every capacity from the warehouse to GM to VP, Lakelan continued his career at Suddath Government Services (SGS) in Network Development and was promoted to Vice President of GSA for Suddath Government Services.
This role allows him to utilize his career skills in management, contract negotiation, marketing, accounting, and other areas to lead a team of culture-driven professionals who are highly motivated and goal-oriented.
Lakelan says, “It has been an honor to serve on the IAM Executive Committee, and on behalf of the membership, to help guide our association through these challenging market conditions. Growing IAM’s footprint in the industry benefits all members and if given the opportunity again, I will continue to do my best to represent the amazing group of moving professionals that make up IAM and support and promote what is most important to them as we move forward together.”
Stephan Geurts Jr., Director, Govlog, N.V.
Running for: Vice Chair (incumbent)
Stephan Geurts Jr. grew up in northern Belgium. In 1996, Gosselin World Wide Moving NV gave him the opportunity to spend his summer vacation on a three-month training program with a customer in the southeastern United States. This enabled him to hone his packing, warehousing and administrative skills.
After graduating from college in 1997, he pursued more in-depth training on the West Coast, where he focused for the next year and a half on military household goods shipping. After returning to Europe he spent six months with a Bremerhaven port agent before settling at Gosselin headquarters in Antwerp, handling DoD personal effects shipments and U.S. Department of State (DoS) business through contracts and tenders.
In 2007, as Gosselin shifted its focus from U.S. government contracting business to logistics and corporate business, Geurts and three colleagues established Government Logistics, whose main focus is serving the U.S. government, providing services for the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. Department of State throughout Europe.
Geurts served on the IAM Executive Committee from 2006 to 2010 as chairman of the YP-35 (now IAM-YP). During his tenure, the YP-35 membership grew to 200 members. He currently chairs the Accessorial Services Committee.
“In my years on the board I have seen what this Association has accomplished for its membership,” says Geurts, “and I would very much like to continue my service and participate in the many more ventures and challenges to come. Since our Association remains greatly focused on the U.S. Government business, I bring added value to the board as an overseas agent handling all aspects of the DoD and DoS business, which continues to remain a challenging and evolving segment of the international market.”

Nezar Uys, CEO, Levine Namtrans Movers (Pty) Ltd.
Running for: Non-U.S. Core Member Representative
Nezar Uys hails from a lineage of three generations in Africa’s transport and logistics industry, bringing a wealth of experience—especially in problem-solving, strategy, and operational solutions. Growing up in a family deeply involved in various aspects of transport, his passion for the field was ignited early in life. Raised in Namibia, a land of golden opportunities for the African continent, particularly for its landlocked neighbors, Nezar matriculated in Swellendam, South Africa, and then pursued his studies at Stellenbosch.
In his second year, he specialized in Transport, allowing him to connect theory with practice. Nezar began his career at FP du Toit Transport (Pty) Ltd, a large family-owned business operating across all modes of transport in Southern Africa, while continuing his studies part-time at the University of Johannesburg. He qualified in Road Transport: Freight and Passengers, Air Transport: Cargo and Passengers, and Maritime. As his career progressed, his natural leadership abilities became increasingly apparent, leading him to obtain an MBL (Master’s in Business Leadership) from the University of South Africa’s Business School.
Nezar started his formal career in the relocation business with Levine Namtrans Movers in Windhoek, Namibia, a month before the COVID-19 lockdown. In response to the unique challenges of the time, he devised innovative strategies to diversify Namtrans' operations beyond the relocation market. His focus was on increasing volumes and revitalizing the business. As restrictions eased, both local and international business rebounded, and today, Nezar proudly states that the company is profitable with a solid strategy for pursuing the international market. The burgeoning oil and gas sector in Namibia presents endless opportunities, and Namtrans, as a member of IAM, is helping open the world to Namibia.
As a Board of Directors member for the Namibian Logistics Association and other industry groups, Nezar is well-versed in current affairs and boasts an extensive network in Africa and globally across road transport, logistics, aviation, and legal services. IAM offers a platform for Nezar to engage with a global network, an environment he thrives in and is eager to expand further. He understands the responsibilities of his representative role and is committed to providing more solutions than unresolved issues. Nezar believes that sustainable solutions in every decision not only address immediate concerns but also set new industry standards.
“The industry faces many challenges today, from global warming to political issues. Everything is interconnected through logistical networks—air, sea, rail, and road—each mode impacting the others. Sustainable solutions require proactive involvement from all industry parties to ensure success,” says Nezar.
“It would be a tremendous honor for me to serve on the Core Executive Committee of IAM. My priority would be to improve memberships, offer sustainable solutions, and enhance the IAM network by improving logistical networks worldwide.”
