Day Four

The final day of the Annual Meeting began when the expo hall opened at 8:00 am, featuring breakfast food and refreshments which remained available until the expo hall officially closed at noon.

At 9:00 am, Executive Committee Chair John Burrows opened the Premier Members’ Meeting, after which IAM committee chairs and staff provided updates on their program areas and plans for the coming year.

The Premier Members’ Election was also held, and results were presented at the end of the meeting. In addition to officers, Premier members voted on two amendments to the Association By-laws. Both amendments were passed.

By-Law Amendment #1:

Amend Article VII, Section 5, Part a to add the following language:

“Candidates for the position of Chair must have served at least one term on the Executive Committee before being eligible to serve in the role of Chair.”

By-Law Amendment #2:

Amend Article VII, Section 1 so that it reads as follows:

The officers of IAM shall be the Chair, Vice Chair, four Members-at-Large, and a President. Officers shall be elected as provided in Article VII, Section 5, shall take office immediately upon the conclusion of the Annual Meeting at which they are elected, and, other than the President, shall serve for a period of two years, or until his/her successor takes office, except that the President shall serve in accordance with the terms of his/her employment contract.

The next session, Hear from HomeSafe Alliance on Latest GHC Shipments and Updates, started at 1:30 pm, and consisted of HomeSafe Alliance (HSA) President Matt Dolan, CEO Bobby Nicholson, Director of Procurement & Supply Chain Management Jim McAvey, and VP of Network Development Caleb Mixon. They provided a comprehensive update on the Global Household Goods Contract (GHC) and its impact on global movers. The panel outlined HSA’s progress, sharing that the current customer satisfaction rate is 96%, largely due to 24/7 support and multiple communication pathways that enhance accessibility and responsiveness. The HomeSafe Connect platform received positive feedback for supporting streamlined tracking and documentation, reducing claims processing to under seven days on average.

Panelists discussed implementation timelines, confirming that full intrastate shipments are planned for March 2025, with interstate and Alaska shipments following by April. International (OCONUS) moves are set to begin on September 1, 2025, with Gosselin and Pasha overseeing the majority of these routes. Providers can engage with Caleb Mixon’s team to discuss rates prior to signing a Master Service Agreement (MSA), as rates are standardized but vary based on shipment specifics like origin, destination, and timing. Provider performance scores will also influence future engagement opportunities.

The Service Contract Act (SCA) compliance was another key topic, with HSA stressing the importance of meeting Department of Labor standards for wages and safety, which directly impact provider eligibility and scoring in HSA’s Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) framework. Providers sign up through HSA’s portal, selecting their areas of service and specialization. Additionally, DoD-approved warehouses will be grandfathered in, while others may receive approval following evaluations and random performance-based site checks. This structured approach supports consistent, high standards and aims to enhance the relocation experience for service members and their families.

The final learning session of the event, Global Household Goods Contract (GHC)—Attendee Reaction, began at 4:00 pm. During this reaction session to the HomeSafe Alliance (HSA) panel, movers expressed significant concerns over transparency, scoring fairness, and Service Contract Act (SCA) compliance under the Global Household Goods Contract (GHC). While HSA’s customer satisfaction score sits at 96%, movers argued that this figure, based on limited data from fewer than 200 moves, might not represent large-scale operational realities or challenges that could emerge as volume grows. They also noted that HSA’s direct access to customer feedback, unlike the restricted access for other movers, could give HSA an advantage in tracking and influencing satisfaction scores.

Compliance with the SCA was a key issue. Movers voiced frustration over the lack of an industry-specific compliance guide, noting that they were being asked to move shipments without the clarity needed to ensure full legal compliance. They requested IAM advocacy for a temporary halt on shipments under GHC until such guidelines are in place or an indemnification from potential Department of Labor actions. HSA acknowledged the compliance challenges and the need for guidance but did not provide a clear timeline for resolution.

At the end of the final day, the Closing Reception, Dinner and Entertainment began with a reception in the ballroom foyer. After the doors were opened, IAM President Brian Limperopulos welcomed members and guests to the event. Before and after the meal was served, a lineup of amazing musical acts captured the look and feel—with uncanny accuracy—of live performances by Frank Sinatra, Freddie Mercury, Celine Dion, and Lady Gaga. The entertainment was followed by music and dancing, and many attendees stayed until the final dance.
