My Volunteer Leadership Experience
Representative: Core Members Management Board – Eastern & Southeastern Asia
I have had an enriching experience while volunteering with IAM; it has been an elevating and learning experience. To be able to work in synergy with various industry dignitaries to create a well-balanced industry ecosystem is a pure job. We have grown as an Industry and now thriving as a community to build a holistic platform which encourages growth and development of not only our members but further extending to the organization’s DNA.
Personally speaking, volunteering has helped me to explore my potential as a leader. It also gave me an opportunity to evaluate people on their key skills and the differentiation and innovations they bring to the industry. Professionally speaking, it has helped me harness my own skills and look at growth and development of individuals from a different perspective. This volunteering opportunity gave me a chance to deep dive within and explore the key traits people possess, and figure out how they should be brought to the front in order to recognize a person’s overall growth journey.
I am a Member of IAM's Core Member Management Board (CMMB) and have served on the IAM Leadership Alliance Council. Being a part of the CMMB has helped me to explore the changing dynamics of the relocation industry and how innovation and forward thinking will shape the industry going forward. As a part of the IAM leadership Alliance Council I was responsible for shaping the rewards and recognition program for IAM in 2022. This helped us recognize passionate individuals and companies aside from their core business activities.
Volunteering with IAM has helped me to develop my communication skills as we regularly coordinate on zoom calls and emails. It brings an immense sense of learning when you are directly working in sync with people from different geographies and sharing your working styles with them. It has surely helped me expand my existing professional network and build deeper one-on-one connections with each of the IAM members I interacted with, which has helped me to understand and learn about their callings and the passions which drive them in this industry.
If you are passionate to learn about the industry and want to dive deeply into its best practices, then volunteering with IAM is something you should definitely explore. The first step is to connect with the right members and share your passion of volunteering for IAM. You can also get in touch with past volunteers and learn about their calling and volunteering experience with IAM.
Volunteering has given me a way to make a positive impact in the industry and beyond. For instance, on the Leadership Alliance Council, I was responsible for the Rewards and Recognition Program at IAM. This helped me in understanding and addressing the key need of appreciating and acknowledging IAM members beyond their business operation capabilities and their contribution towards tonnage in a given particular year.
I feel it’s crucial for industry professionals to give back and volunteer with organizations like IAM to understand how the industry functions at the global level. Volunteering with industry associations thereby gives you the exposure and opportunity to learn about the global industry, and provides you with immense networking and leadership opportunities.
