Retention and Recruitment Strategies
What Works:
Providing Ongoing Training and Development: Offering programs and career advancement opportunities to support employee growth and development.
Career tracking: working with employees to understand their long-term goals and discuss how that can fit into their career at the organization. Through these conversations, we create a career path that allows them to understand the steps and visualize how they will get from where they are “today” to where they want to be.
Implementing Employee Recognition Events: One of our largest efforts is our annual Company Meeting. We bring all branches of our company together to acknowledge employees’ hard work and dedication, highlighting years of service, safe drivers, those who have gone above and beyond, and anything in between.
Various recruitment efforts: We utilize a variety of recruitment techniques including jobs fairs, online and in person application accessibility, online job boards, ads on our trucks, and employee referral program. Job seekers look for their next career opportunity in so many places, we try to reach them anywhere they are.
Benefits: Long-term employees accrue more PTO over time, rewarding their loyalty and dedication to the company.
What Doesn’t Work:
Neglecting Clear Communication: Failing to communicate effectively with candidates during the recruitment process can lead to misunderstandings and dissatisfaction. Not providing proper onboarding and training can lead to higher turnaround rates and misunderstandings of job responsibilities.
Providing Limited Opportunities for Advancement: Failing to offer opportunities for career advancement and professional development can lead to employee dissatisfaction and turnover.
Skills Prioritized in Recruitment:
Experience in Logistics: Candidates with experience in logistics, transportation, or related fields are highly valued for their understanding of the industry.
Strong Problem-Solving Abilities: We’re constantly focused on the company’s growth and adapting our services to meet our clients’ needs. Candidates who demonstrate strong problem-solving skills can effectively navigate industry challenges and find creative solutions that better our company.
Excellent Customer Service Skills: Candidates with excellent communication skills and a customer-centric approach are essential for delivering high-quality service.
Employee Engagement:
Encouraging Feedback and Collaboration: Encouraging open communication, feedback, and collaboration among team members can foster a sense of belonging and engagement. We’ve established multiple committees to work together, communicate problems and drive solutions – bringing in representatives from different areas of our business.
Recognizing and Rewarding Achievement: Our yearly company meeting takes time to bring together all our team members and highlights individuals and teams. We’ve opened our nomination system to allow more input from team members. They tell us who deserves the recognition, focusing on collaboration from our team and highlighting individuals whose efforts may be overlooked.
