My Happy Second Home at Boonma, Thailand
If the environment is happy, people will laugh and your grief will go away. This famous quote by Srinivas Mishra highlights a truth we cannot ignore. Today, our workplace has become like a second home, where we spend approximately eight hours a day. Imagine if the office we work in every day had an uncomfortable environment and a negative atmosphere—how would you feel? It would not be a place where you want to stay. Therefore, mental wellness in the workplace is a key factor leading a company to greater efficiency and success. Happier employees perform more productive work. Isn’t now the perfect time to innovate the workplace atmosphere for more positive outcomes?
In my second year at Boonma, staff mental wellness has been given priority because management believes it is crucial for organizational development. They treat us as part of the Boonma family, not just employees. At Boonma, management tries to avoid putting unnecessary pressure on staff. They allow us to plan and manage our work processes while providing support when we encounter new problems or challenges.
We cannot deny that even in the best company, we still experience stress from daily work. The management equips me and the staff to face and cope with problems and find the best ways to minimize stress. One way they reduce employee anxiety is through an annual retreat. Each year, our human resources department organizes either a big annual staff party or retreat. For example, last year, Boonma employees traveled to Ao Khai in Rayong. We all enjoyed the trip immensely, and afterwards, we noticed improved happiness and better mental health and wellness among our colleagues and within ourselves.
