Thinking Globally and Acting Locally at MoveOne
At MoveOne, our CEO serves as the leader on sustainability within our company, demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental responsibility. While the CEO's role in sustainability may be part-time, it reflects our organization’s dedication and commitment to sustainable practices. Regular discussions on sustainability are held, involving our CEO, senior management team, and other key stakeholders. These discussions serve as a platform for identifying areas of focus, setting goals, and reviewing the results of our sustainability initiatives.
To ensure effective governance and collaboration, a committee comprising senior management team members is actively involved in shaping our sustainability strategy. This committee works together to identify key areas of focus, establish targets, and monitor progress toward our sustainability goals. The involvement of senior management underscores our company’s commitment to sustainability at the highest levels of leadership.
By actively engaging in regular discussions and involving senior management in our sustainability efforts, we foster a culture of sustainability throughout our organization. This approach allows us to align our environmental goals with our business objectives and drive meaningful change. Our CEO’s leadership, along with the active participation of our senior management team, reinforces our strong commitment to sustainability and reflects our ongoing efforts to integrate sustainable practices into all aspects of our business.
Move One operates in more than 50 countries, ranging from advanced nations to the most challenging regions, and we hold a strong commitment to our communities, our employees, and the planet. Our environmental policy is guided by two core principles: improving the areas where we operate and practicing the “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle” approach.
To minimize our impact and work towards carbon neutrality, we track our carbon emissions. This allows us to better understand our carbon footprint and take measures to reduce it. In addition to tracking emissions from our logistics and moving operations, we have implemented various policies and initiatives:
1. Reduce
We operate in energy-rated Class A offices whenever possible.
Our offices are located in energy-efficient central business districts, offering excellent access to public transportation.
We utilize smart technology and climate control in main buildings.
We contribute to the cost of public transportation for our staff, with over 95% of employees utilizing public transport to commute.
We discourage vehicle use for commuting by not providing company cars.
Where feasible, we offer flexible working options that allow employees to work partially from home.
Over the past decade, we have reduced our document printing by 96% through continuous improvement of operating systems.
Our primary data centers, which handle 99% of our data, are located in Switzerland, where a significant portion of the energy is sourced from renewable sources.
All our offices are equipped with filtered water machines, and staff are provided with recycled water bottles.
More than 90% of our surveys for household goods are conducted via video.
Most inter-company meetings are held digitally.
We are investing in local machinery to produce packing supplies in more than 50% of our offices, reducing the need for transportation and reliance on externally sourced supplies.
2. Reuse & Recycle
In our moving operations, over 90% of boxes are reused for multiple moves before being taken to recycling companies at the end of their useful life.
Our obsolete electronic equipment is donated to charities that can reuse it in schools in Africa.
Other notable aspects of our operations include:
Our standard operating vehicle in Africa typically covers more than 500,000 km.
We do not have a policy of “business travelers,” and none of our staff regularly fly to work in other offices.
During relocation tours, we often use taxi services that can utilize high-occupancy lanes, reducing idling time. This also leads to higher vehicle utilization rates and fewer cars in production and on the road.
We apply the same policy of outsourcing local truck use for our courier logistics and moving services, reducing the number of trucks produced and on the road.
Community Support: In addition to supporting schools with our IT equipment, we strive to engage with the communities where we operate.
At Move One, we are dedicated to making a positive impact on the environment, embracing sustainable practices, and contributing to the well-being of our communities.
