Trust in the Age of Algorithms: Why Human Judgment Still Matters
By Jan U. Kamonchanok, Marketing & PR Executive, Boonma
Trust is a simple word with profound consequences. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, trust is the belief that you can rely on someone or something. In practice, trust is the invisible force behind nearly every decision we make, including who we hire, which services we choose, and which companies we allow into our lives. For businesses, trust is not just a value; it is the foundation on which long-term success is built.
This is especially true in service-driven industries like moving and relocation, where clients hand over their belongings, timelines, and peace of mind. In recent years, however, the way companies build trust has been reshaped by a powerful new player: artificial intelligence.
AI tools are among the most significant innovations of modern life. Designed to simplify complexity and respond to human needs, they now touch almost every industry. Many moving companies, for example, have adopted AI-powered solutions such as automated email replies, instant quotation calculators, and even AI-generated promotional videos. These tools promise speed, efficiency, and reduced workloads.
Yet, AI can be a double-edged sword. While it can streamline operations, research and real-world experience suggest that AI-generated content often lacks the nuance, empathy, and quality of human-made work. In industries where trust depends on personal understanding and tailored solutions, this limitation can quietly erode confidence among clients and partners.
At Boonma, we have grappled with this tension firsthand. Like many companies, we explored using AI tools to reduce processing time and manage heavy workloads. However, we ultimately concluded that, especially in client-facing tasks, the quality of human work remains superior. Every client and partner has unique needs, and automated quotation systems can be too blunt to reflect those nuances. A real staff member, by contrast, can listen, adjust, and design a solution that truly fits.
Speed alone does not build trust. A better foundation is built on accuracy, care, and personal attention. When clients feel understood and properly supported, their confidence in the company grows naturally. For this reason, we have remained deeply committed to our staff’s expertise and judgment, even as automation becomes increasingly adopted across the industry.
That commitment, however, comes with challenges. During peak seasons, our inbound and outbound teams face overflowing inboxes and increased response times. Clients and partners still rightfully expect fast, high-quality communication. In these moments, the appeal of automated AI replies becomes hard to ignore.
Rather than choosing between humans and machines, we are now exploring a balanced approach. AI can assist by supporting workflow management, while real staff remain responsible for meaningful communication and decision-making. By distributing work more evenly and defining clear roles for each employee, we ensure that no single team is overwhelmed.
The results speak for themselves. Client satisfaction surveys consistently show strong trust and approval, driven by fast responses and high-quality, human-centered service. In an age increasingly shaped by algorithms, this balance allows us to embrace innovation without sacrificing the very thing that matters most.
Because in the end, technology may speed up the process, but trust is still built by people.
