Staying Ahead of the Shipment: Supporting the New Transferee Through Communication and Care
By Megan Tillotson, Director of Marketing, NEDRAC, Inc.
In an industry where expectations continue to rise and timelines tighten, we’ve found that the key to success with today’s transferees isn’t about reinventing the wheel, but rather about staying one step ahead of it.
At NEDRAC, we’ve seen how global events, rising costs, and tighter move schedules have amplified stress for both transferees and our industry partners. While the core logistics needs remain relatively consistent—timely delivery, secure handling, and cost-conscious solutions—transferees today are also looking for something more: reassurance, adaptability, and transparency throughout the process.
As a company that handles domestic and international relocations, we’re navigating complex and often unpredictable challenges every day. That unpredictability has increased in recent years, making proactive communication one of our most critical tools. Whether we’re facing a delay due to congestion at a port or an unexpected customs clearance issue, our move coordinators know being upfront with transferees and our agents is essential. Anticipating roadblocks and offering alternate solutions before they become a concern is how we preserve trust and reduce anxiety.
We’ve seen firsthand that a responsive and well-informed move manager can make all the difference. Moving, especially internationally, involves far more than transporting items from point A to point B. Clients are juggling a whirlwind of personal transitions—selling homes, enrolling children in new schools, facing language barriers, managing finances, and more. That’s why our coordinators don’t just move cargo, they become part of the transferee’s support system and serve as partners to our global network of agents, helping them navigate expectations from their clients, too.
At NEDRAC, success is measured by how prepared we are when things go off-script. Keeping clients informed, coordinating with agents to ensure seamless service across borders, and equipping our team with enough knowledge, empathy, and flexibility to adapt in real time are important values within our company. That’s what today’s transferees demand, and it’s where young professionals in our industry are making a meaningful impact.
As a YP myself, stepping into a role in an established company has given me a front-row seat to the value this generation can bring to the table. We’re naturally attuned to digital communication, automation tools, and collaborative workflows. Beyond that, YPs also bring a deep understanding of emotional intelligence. We’re not afraid to ask how expectations are being met mid-move, we take time to explain the process, and we’re willing to challenge “how it’s always been done” if it means serving clients better.
While NEDRAC has not experienced significant declines in volume, we’re continuously committed to diversifying and evolving. That means looking at new service verticals, exploring creative client engagement strategies, and investing in our people.
Although there is rarely a straight line from origin to destination, if we can remain flexible, compassionate, and ahead of the shipment, we’ll continue turning uncertainty into reassurance for the clients and agents relying on us.
