Adapting to Change Like a Duck to the Water

By Franciele Schenatto, Group International Shipping Manager, Doree Bonner International

Like everything else, the removals industry is constantly evolving. The world is spinning (maybe too fast for my liking) and we must keep up the pace. I keep asking myself, what comes next?

There have been many positive changes in the removals industry over the years, such as improved transportation methods, automation, social media, and online platforms that shape the way we work.

Removals companies are always looking for ways to improve efficiency to meet the needs and expectations of customers. We are dealing with demanding customers whose heightened expectations are driving an evolution in the industry environment. Today’s customers expect more than just logistics—they demand transparency, seamless communication, flexibility, personalization, tech enabling experience, and a wide range of services, just to name a few.

Customers now expect companies to deliver personalized interactions and personalization has become a must for digital experiences. I believe that we must stay ahead of the curve and increase our methods of engagement to enhance the user experience, empowering our products and services.

Many companies are shifting away from traditional, fully managed move packages and working towards a more flexible, on-demand personalized moving services, while maintaining high standards.

Flexibility is also a requirement at the top of customers’ lists. While it may involve jumping some hoops for us (especially during the busy season), removal companies must be prepared to adapt to the customer’s specific needs and circumstances. These needs come in all sorts, like short-notice moves that need to happen “yesterday” and may involve unusual working hours, or bespoke service with custom storage solutions. Whatever the request may be, we are here to assist, offering a range of options and support to ensure a smooth and stress-free move.

This personalized level of service is what the customer expects, and we are here to make it happen. This is not always easy for us removalists. Right now, an image comes to mind to describe it: the duck in the pond, swimming serenely, but its feet are working hard under the surface.

I do not think there is a boring day in our industry. It is impossible with so much to do. We all need to keep providing informative, innovative, relevant, fresh content to engage customers and get ready for the next thing, whatever that may be.

Let’s adapt, review, change, improve and succeed, deliver quality and consistency across every move. We will navigate removal challenges like market fluctuations, customs paperwork, time pressures—the list is endless—and make the removal transition into part of the exciting next chapter of our customer’s life. The key to our success is helping them move with confidence, clarity, and control, establishing your removal company as a trusted authority in the industry.

What comes next? Driverless trucks? Robot crews? I don’t think so; these seem quite a long way away…or maybe not. What we can be sure of is that the face our industry and customers will keep on changing, and companies that embrace technology, sustainability, and customer-focused services will thrive in this evolving landscape.
