Coming Up in the Portal

In every issue of the Portal, we invite our authors to share their experiences, success stories, learning experiences, and vision with others in the moving and forwarding industry. In addition to our regular columns, feature articles for each issue are united by a central theme. This page contains the theme, guidelines, and deadlines for the upcoming issue of the magazine and will change regularly. Our editorial calendar will give you a glance further into future issues, and the Submit Your Story page details regular columns to which you may submit articles and news, as well as our submission guidelines and instructions.

July/August 2024

IAM-YP Focus: Globally Connected, Mindfully Stable: Achieving Work-Life Harmony in the World of Moving

Deadline: June 7

You are invited to contribute your experience and expertise to our July/August feature story!

The theme for the YP issue of the Portal magazine will focus on mental wellness practices and their impact on professional performance and personal well-being in the industry. This issue will share members' stories of balancing work demands with personal life and practical strategies for maintaining mental wellness despite a busy schedule.

Here are some suggestions for your article submissions:

Personal Success Stories:

  • Detail personal experiences with integrating mental wellness practices into a busy professional life. Contributors could share their unique challenges and breakthroughs, emphasizing the techniques and strategies that have improved both their mental health and job performance.

Company Wellness Initiatives:

  • What are the ways companies within the industry are promoting mental health and wellness among their employees

Mental Wellness Advocacy:

  • What is our (YPs') role in advocating for mental wellness? How do we create a supportive culture within companies? How do we advocate for mental wellness when there is resistance in some of the age groups?

Please send all inquiries and submissions to Will Kohudic, Editor, at william.kohudic@iamovers.org.

  • You may write a complete article or simply provide the suggested information and we’ll include it in a staff-written overview article.

  • NEW Policy Regarding Use of AI: While AI-powered tools like ChatGPT can be useful in researching and outlining your contribution, we ask that you do the writing yourself; our readers want to hear your ideas in your own voice. Think of it as the difference between being one voice on a conference call, and meeting your colleagues face-to-face at the Annual Meeting—don't phone it in, your readers are here to meet the real you.

  • High-resolution digital photos (as separate image files, not embedded in your Word document) are welcome and will be used with your story as space permits.

  • We don’t have a specific word limit but suggest about 500-800 words. Remember that all submissions are subject to editing.

  • You may provide your text in an email message or as an attached Word document.

  • Be sure to include the author's name, job title and company with your submission.

  • Send your contribution and any questions to  william.kohudic@iamovers.org.
