The New Transferee
Redefining the New Transferee Experience: Innovation, Empathy, and Leadership in Relocation

By Aakanksha Bhargava, CEO, PM Relocations
The transferee today is not who they were a decade ago—nor even a few years ago. As global mobility professionals, we are witnessing a profound evolution. Move volumes are down, hybrid work is altering traditional relocation patterns, and the people we move are seeking far more than logistics—they’re seeking life continuity, emotional security, and personalized care. This shift is not just a trend—it’s a call to action.
At PM Relocations (PMR), we see every transferee as a story in transition, not a task to be managed. Their expectations have changed. Today’s transferee asks, “Will my family feel at home in a new country?” or “Can I trust that my pet, my belongings, and my emotional well-being will be handled with care?” These are no longer afterthoughts—they are central to the decision to relocate.
Responding to Evolving Expectations
To meet these new demands, we’ve diversified our service portfolio beyond core packing and moving. From school search assistance to pet relocation, cross-cultural orientation, and virtual city tours, we’re reshaping what it means to support someone through a move. These offerings aren't extras anymore; they’re essentials.
We’ve also placed a stronger emphasis on real-time communication, customization, and transparency. Transferees want to be in the loop, not left in the dark. At PMR, we focus on staying connected throughout the process: collecting feedback instantly and ensuring transferees feel heard, supported, and informed at every step of their journey.
The Move Manager, Reimagined
Is the move manager still relevant? Absolutely—but not in the way they used to be. Today’s move manager must evolve into what we call a relocation buddy. They are not just operational experts, but empathetic guides, digital communicators, and cultural translators. We’re upskilling our teams with a unique blend of emotional intelligence and tech fluency, because managing a move today is as much about human connection as it is about logistics.
Seizing Opportunities
With move volumes declining, we’ve taken the opportunity at PMR to pivot toward high-demand, niche services like fine art handling. These offerings allow us to stay relevant and deliver more strategic value. As employee engagement becomes a priority, our focus has shifted to creating personalized relocation experiences and supporting transferees with thoughtful, well-rounded solutions.
Advice to YPs in Mobility
To fellow young professionals: embrace these changes. They present an opportunity to lead, not just follow. Understand your transferees—not just their shipment sizes but their fears, dreams, and expectations. Innovate with empathy. Challenge the status quo. And never forget—each box we move is a bridge to someone’s next chapter, not just a task on a checklist.
The future of relocation belongs to those who can blend operational excellence with emotional intelligence. Let’s be the ones who set that standard.
